As I walked in the frigid Maine air my mind went back to I Timothy 4:7 and my message last night concerning how we should exercise ourselves to godliness. I really don't relish exercise, there was a time I loved to workout but the older I get the more of a chore it becomes, but i have goals for my life. I want to ride my bike 55 miles in honor of my 55th birthday in August and I want to climb a mountain peak one more time...hopefully Katahdin and hopefully with my son. To do that I need to get in shape which would include losing about 20 pounds of "weight that so easily besets me". Hence, I need to exercise...for now all I can do is walk, but hopefully soon I can start riding my bike and lifting some weights. But the point of this musing is...I really don't want to do any of this, I'd rather sit in front of the TV in a warm house, but I would never reach my goals. As Christians I hope we all have spiritual growth as a goal and as Paul wrote to Timothy it will take work. It means prayer and Bible study, it means being faithful to church so that we can practice the "one anothers" that the Bible talks about. Are you exercising spiritually, or are you just growing fat, digesting the Sunday morning food that you recieve but never doing anything with it, and more importantly are you daily growing and exercising? What are your spiritual goals and what are you doing to attain them? Let's start exercising!! God bless!

My jump into the world of blogging...

Well, here goes. My goal is every Monday to sit down and think about the past week and contemplate lessons learned.
We are in the midst of our Missions Emphasis Month. For the first time I am stepping down from the pulpit for a whole month and focusing our attention on the world by inviting people in missionary endeavors to come and challenge us with their ministries. I have been challenged, my wife has already made commitments to two short term missions trips next summer.
On a personal note I have been fighting massive headaches and eye pain, I feel that my eyes could explode like some horror movie, tomorrow I hope to get some answers from the doc. My father in law is having heart surgery today, my own dad and mom also have heart issues, this getting old business is interesting. Just about the time you think you have things figured out you start to breakdown!!!! My cousin who is just a few years older than I has a serious case of cancer. He, my parents, my in-laws are all born again believers, they know that when they pass from this earth they will enter heaven, that is the only way to face the troubles that life presents to us. God is in total control, nothing takes Him by surprise. As Jack Wyrtzen used to say, "Life is short, death is sure, sin the curse, Christ the cure!" As another friend of mine used to say, "God is good all the time, all the time God is good"
Have a great week and God bless
